Adolescent Therapy
According to recent data from the CDC more than 4 in 10 (42%) students felt persistently sad or hopeless. Rates of social isolation and loneliness are on the rise for the contemporary teen.
It is one of my personal goals as a therapist to have a positive impact and help inspire as many young people as possible. I truly enjoy working with my adolescent patients because they are very receptive to treatment, and the work we do can be profoundly impactful for not only their current but future mental health and relationships.
Some common concerns with teens that can be successfully addressed in therapy include:
Gender Identity / LGBTQIA+
Depression
Anxiety
Self-esteem
Grief and loss
Threats of self-harm or thoughts of suicide
Sexual assault and trauma
Fitting in with peers
Demands of high school
Preparing for college
Dating and relationships
Blended families
Parents’ divorce
Parental substance use
Amotional abuse and neglect
Sexuality
With teens I often like to use techniques that help increase insight and self awareness which will help them strengthen their relationships and sense of self. Using psychodynamic psychotherapy & really getting deep can untangle the root of the pain. CBT is also useful for symptom reduction.
